Thousands of Eligible Students Turned Away

It is common knowledge we are having a worldwide nursing shortage. In America, the baby boomers are getting set to retire and reach the age in which they require more healthcare services. Due to advanced in medicine, the baby boomers will live longer than previous generations, which is worsening the nursing crises. But, despite the fact that we are in the midst of a nursing crises, each year thousands of eligible students are turned away from nursing schools. The question is why?

The reason is that there are not enough nursing instructors to teach all the students. A practicing nurse earns more than a nursing instructor (who has an advanced degree in addition to the degrees that a nurse has). The average age of nursing instructors is increasing and new recruits are not coming in to replace them because it does not make sense to get an additional degree so that you can earn less. If this problem is not solved the nursing shortage will turn into a crisis.
