Some of you, while doing your research on nursing may have come across the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. It is offered by the Columbia University School of Nursing, a prestigious institute. But, this degree has causes all sorts of controversy ever since it has been introduced.

The DNP degree is a masters level degree (i.e. you do it after finishing a bachelors). However, since the name has the word "doctor" in it, it is very misleading. On top of that, in a medical situation if a nurse is a "Doctor" the patient can be quiet confused as well. So, this degree has been facing a lot of opposition from physican associations that say this will cause problems. Personally, I think they should change the name since it can be quite misleading. For anyone interested in this degree, I would recommend waiting until the issue gets resolved before jumping in for this one.
